Fixed Length Text Input Definition Form

You can either specify the column names and length information on this form or you can use the Visual Line Parser button to use a ruler control to define the column lengths.

If you choose to input the column definitions on this form, the sequence will be as follows:

  • Step 1: Enter the column information in the Field Name, Column Name, Column Width and Value Alignment text boxes on the lower left of the form.
  • Step 2: Click the Update button to post you input to the column definitions list.
  • Step 3: Click the Define New Item button (+ sign button).to add a new column. Return to Step 1 to input information for the new column.
  • Click the Accept button when you are finished.

 

Column No.

Position of the column on the line.

Field Name

Name of the data source field.

Column Name

Name to give column in the output extract.

Column Width

Number of spaces the column will occupy in the output line.

Value Alignment

Left Justify or Right Justify the column’s value in the output.

Update Button

Click this button to apply the values in Field Name, Column Name, Column Width and Value Alignment text boxes to the column list.

Move Selected Item Up Button

Moves up the currently selected column in the column output list.

Use this to rearrange how the columns will line up on the output line.

Move Selected Item Down Button

Moves down the currently selected column in the column output list.

Use this to rearrange how the columns will line up on the output line.

Delete Currently Selected Item Button

Removes the currently selected column in the column output list.

Copy Currently Selected Item Button

Makes a duplicate of the currently selected column in the column output list.

Define New Item Button

Click this button to add a new column to the column output list.

Clicking this button will clear the Field Name, Column Name, Column Width and Value Alignment text boxes and add a new column to the column output list.

Accept Button

Click this button to accept the current line definition and return to the data source form.

Calculated line length will be reflected on the data source form.

Visual Line Parser Button

Print Button

Will send a report containing the contents of this form to a printer of your choice.

Cancel Button

Throw away current line definition edits and return to data source form.

 

Menu Items

Page Setup

Controls how printer displays data on page. For example, Portrait or Landscape mode.

Print

You will be prompted to select a printer and then a report containing the contents of the form will be sent to a preview window.

Print Preview

Displays the form contents in a preview pane before sending to the printer.

Exit

Closes form.
